The Tribunal Gazeta does not engage in promotional or agitation activities related to the large Orchestra of Christmas Charity. For more than 10 years, the editorial board did not participate in the WOŚP image campaigns, did not encourage to participate in the collections, did not include patronages or published material aimed at building a affirmative message around this initiative.
At the same time, you can find quite a few materials in the portal concerning WŚP, but only in a public and critical context. These were texts devoted to controversy, irregularities, disputes, media phenomena, or situations that, from a public standpoint, required comment, distance or specified naming. They were not and are not promotional.
“GT” is not a supporter of hurraoptimism, collective uplifts, or a media lance with good intentions. With reserve we look at a phenomenon in which help, alternatively of staying quiet and specific, becomes an excuse for self-promotion, image building and moral superiority. It is peculiarly distasteful to see public individuals, institutions or the media promoted on a wave of charity activities, for which social solidarity is simply a tool for advertising.
For this reason, the editorial board consistently separates information and criticism from participation in mass emotional actions. It does not enter into the function of the ambassador of any initiative and does not feel the request to show attitudes through participation in collective campaigns. It retains distance, independency and the right to its own assessment of phenomena present in public space, including those that enjoy widespread sympathy and media protection umbrella.
This attitude is not due to the reluctance to help, but to the belief that the function of the press is not to strengthen moods or participate in collective rituals, but to look at reality carefully, critically and without emotional coercion.
