When water or crayons are a peculiar gift

Polish soldiers on a mission in the Central African Republic organized aid for the school and medical centre. They gave children discipline supplies, toys, sports equipment, and provided water that is missing all day. “Our visit has caused large joy,” says Captain Łukasz Rymarkiewicz from the Polish contingent, officer of the 8th Koszalin Anti-aircraft Regiment.

Polish military contingent takes part on the European Union military mission to the Central African Republic from 2014. At first, the mission was stabilizing, with time it was transformed into advisory and training. Its intent now is to support the modernisation of the Central African Armed Forces, strategical advice and training of officers and soldiers.

Currently the 19th PKW change takes place. Soldiers participating in it proceed their support programmes for the poorest people in the world. This time they organized a relief action for the school and medical centre. Father Pio in Bimbo, which is located in Bangi, the capital of the country. As Major Rafał Trandyk of the 8th Koszalin Anti-Aircraft Regiment explains, the initiative was prepared with the support of the Polish clergy, which has been working for the population in the Central African Republic for years.

Soldiers gave students, among others, over 850 litres of drinking water, which is missing all day, due to deficiency of infrastructure and organizational chaos in the country. Children besides received school supplies, toys, sweets and sports equipment. As the soldiers themselves emphasize, their visit and time spent together allowed their children to get distant from their regular concerns. And colored crayons or notebooks, which are always besides little, have caused cheers. – In a thank you, the students presented a specially prepared artistic performance for us – says Captain Łukasz Rymarkiewicz.

The officer notes that specified meetings are part of the regular service of Polish soldiers as part of the mission. Military from PKW are already holding further collections to aid orphanages this time, which are many in the region. They besides establish further contacts to start working with organisations in request of support.

The Polish military contingent in the Central African Republic is presently 1 of the smallest abroad missions of the Armed Forces of Poland. It is part of a broader commitment of the European Union (EUTM RCA) to both political, economical and security, which has been taken in consequence to the crisis in the Central African Republic over the years under civilian war.
