The U.S. Attorney's Office accused a couple of Chinese of smuggling a dangerous biological pathogen, which is simply a possible terrorist weapon. The fungus, named Fusarium graminearum in Latin, causes plant diseases, including harm to grain ears.

FBI investigators established that 34-year-old scientist Liu Zunyong attempted to smuggle fungus spores from the PRC to the US erstwhile he came to visit his partner, 33-year-old Jian Yunqing. This occurred in July 2024 at Detroit Airport.

He later changed his testimony, saying he was planning on utilizing the material for investigation at the University of Michigan laboratory where Jian worked. According to the FBI, this fungus is classified in professional literature as a "potential agri-terrorism weapon". Pathogen is liable for "dollar billions of economical losses worldwide all year".
