Eurasianet: Uzbekistan expands energy cooperation with the US

Uzbekistan announced a fresh package of energy contracts with US companies with a full value of over $4 billion.

Uzbek's energy minister, Jurabek Mirzamachmudow, reported in an interview with Uzbekiston 24 tv that the government had signed a series of agreements with Air Products from Pennsylvania to accelerate the green transformation of this Central Asian country.

According to Air Products website, the company strives to improve air quality, serving a wide scope of industries — from refinery and chemical industries to metallurgy, electronics and production, to the food sector — providing the essential industrial gases, technologies and expertise in their applications.

Air Products is expected to accelerate the construction of the Petrochemical Complex in Bucharest, as well as engage in the improvement of a number of coal gasification projects and the refining of “clean” aviation fuel, according to a study published by UzDaily, a government-related news service. The Minister stressed that the contracts concluded should be regarded as investments alternatively than purchases.

Mirzamachmudow besides reported on signing agreements with 2 large power companies from Houston — Schlumberger and Baker Hughes. According to UzDaily, cooperation will include the implementation of modern technologies, management methods and the usage of the experience of American partners.
