Head of EU diplomacy Kaja Kallas expressed the view that participation in the triumph Day celebration in Moscow would be taken seriously, both in the case of EU candidate countries and current EU members.
What did Robert Fico say?
In consequence to Kallas’s words, Slovakia’s Prime Minister Robert Fico stated: “I will go to Moscow on 9 May. [...] Mrs Kallas's words show that a debate on the essence of democracy is needed in the European Union." He besides stressed that as a legally elected Prime Minister of a sovereign state, he has the right to travel wherever he wants and pay tribute to the victims of planet War II.
What else did the Slovak Prime Minister say?
“No 1 has the right to forbid me where I can or cannot go. I will go to Moscow to pay tribute to the thousands of Red Army soldiers who died, liberating Slovakia, as well as millions of another victims of Nazi terror. Just as I paid tribute to the victims of the landing in Normandy, who died in the Pacific or – as I plan – to RAF pilots," he added.
