The European Commission plans to strengthen the EU police and law enforcement authorities in the framework of a fresh interior safety strategy against threats from countries cooperating with criminal structures — reported the Financial Times newspaper, citing a draft document.
The paper states that abroad states "use crime as a favour and criminals as intermediaries" by trying to penetrate EU critical infrastructure and supply chains to disrupt them.
"The Commission proposes to extend the powers of law enforcement authorities to combat alleged hybrid attacks, expanding the EU's capacity to fight terrorism and organised crime, impose sanctions and access to banking information", the publication states.
According to the newspaper, the paper will be published on Tuesday.
