The production of any drones for the military will be faster and cheaper. Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz has just signed the decision to launch a two-year pilot production program in selected military units of unmanned aircraft systems. Drones are to be created utilizing modern 3D printing technology.
As announced by the Ministry of Defence in the coming years, 1 of the priorities of modernization of the Polish Armed Forces will be widely understood ‘droneisation’. – The drone troops are the future of the Polish army. They are the future of all types of armed forces, and there will be hundreds of thousands of drones in them: flying, ground, water and underwater," said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz in early 2025.
The concept of Unmanned Armoured Systems Army (BSU) was established in 2024, and on 1 January 2025, the Inspectorate of Unmanned Armoured Systems Military was established at the General Command of the RSZ, at which he headed Brig-Gen Mirosław Bodnar.
Importantly, the army wants not only to get unmanned vehicles from the marketplace – to buy ready-made structures, but besides to produce them in military units. The General Staff of the Polish Army reported that the head of the Ministry of Defence signed the decision to launch a two-year pilot program on this matter.
– The aim of the program is to get the ability to produce drones rapidly and cheaply using 3D printing technology. The program will include selected military units that are already investigating this technology and have the possible to further develop: soldiers with cognition and passion who want to make in this direction – wrote the General Staff of the HR in social media. The communication added that the conclusions and experience of the program will be utilized to build structures for the production and servicing of drones in most units.
– By the end of the pilot program, i.e. by the end of 2026, optimal solutions for the manufacture, modification and repair of drones will be developed, which will then be implemented in most military units of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Poland – announced representatives of the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces.
The thought for military to produce, repair and modify drones themselves was taken from the experience of the Ukrainian army, which presently has the capacity to produce tens of thousands of unmanned or essential spare parts. Production takes place utilizing 3D printing technology.
