The National Prosecutor's Office informed of the second indictment in a loud case of the alleged visa scandal. The investigation, conducted since March 2023 in cooperation with the Central Anti-corruption Office, includes 4 more people and shows the scale and complexity of the investigation, which has been a origin of tremendous political emotion from the beginning.
Among the accused were: Edgar K., erstwhile Deputy abroad Minister Piotr Wawrzyk, and erstwhile advanced officials of the MFA – Marcin J., manager of the Consulate Department, and his deputy Beata B.
Edgar K. pleads guilty
The most serious charges concern Edgar K., who was accused of committing 9 crimes of paid protection from 2022 to 2023. The Prosecutor's Office indicates that it was intended to mediate ‘visa handling’ in exchange for assets.
Importantly, Edgar K. confessed and provided extended explanations. According to the D.A., the information disclosed by him is straight related to the allegations made by the another defendants. It is this theme, based mostly on the evidence of 1 suspect, that will be 1 of the key elements of the future trial.
For the crime of paid protection (Article 230(1) of the Penal Code), there is simply a punishment of up to 8 years imprisonment.
Former Deputy Minister and MFA officials deny allegations
Piotr Wawrzyk, who served as Deputy Minister of abroad Affairs from 2018 to 1923, was charged with 1 offence of overshooting powers and disclosure of authoritative information to an unauthorised person. The charges relate to the period from February 2022 to May 2023.
The erstwhile Deputy Minister did not plead guilty. In his submissions, he stressed that his activities were within the framework of statutory supervision of the consular post and were of an organisational or information nature. Similarly, Martin J. and Beata B. deny the allegations, claiming that they did not commit an excess of powers.
In their case, the prosecution refers to Article 231(2) of the Criminal Code, which provides for a conviction of up to 10 years.
Preventive measures and no erstwhile judgments
All defendants were subject to preventive measures of a free nature, mainly property guarantees. no of these people have been punished so far, which will besides be applicable at the judicial stage.
In total, 11 people have already been reported in the full investigation to whom the D.A. attributes 27 crimes. 1 individual remains a fishy and is wanted by a BOLO.
Case going beyond 1 resort
The prosecution stresses that the investigation is multi-threaded and continued. presently it focuses on legislative work on amendments to the Foreigners Act, the preparation of implementing acts and the creation of fresh administrative structures, specified as the Center for Visa Decisions in Łódź and the Consular Information Centre in Kielce.
The first indictment, directed in August 2025, active six people and fourteen crimes involving the granting of property benefits to Edgar K. in exchange for assistance with visa procedures.
Political context and liability questions
The visa issue is utilized from the start in the current political struggle. At this stage, however, the separation of facts from narratives and the reliable assessment of evidence by an independent court remains crucial. Accusations – even serious – are not yet judgments, and criminal liability must be clearly proven.
At the same time, it shows how delicate the area of visa and migration policy is to national safety and how crucial it is to seal procedures, not declarative. This is simply a subject that – regardless of organization sympathy – should be treated with the highest seriousness.
