Greenland's Prime Minister Jens Frederik Nielsen powerfully rejected Donald Trump's suggestions regarding the request for the US to "take" the island. "Enough pressures, innuendos and fantasies about annexation," he stated, considering specified statements as a deficiency of respect for Greenland.
It is Trump's Sunday message for The Atlantic, in which he stated that the US "absolutely needs Greenland" for defence reasons, pointing to the presence of Russian and Chinese ships in the region. The tension besides increased Katie Miller's entry with Greenland's map in the colors of the US, to which Denmark reacted, demanding respect for its territorial integrity.
In consequence to the words of the U.S. president of Greenland, Prime Minister Jens Frederik Nielsen stressed that Greenland is simply a sovereign country, democracy and part of NATO, aware of its strategical position. He pointed out that alliance relationships must be based on trust, and threats or talks about annexation have no place between partners. He added that the island remained open to dialog but only with respect for global law.
