Moldovan president Maia Sandu stated that the result of the parliamentary elections is simply a strong mandate for the authorities in Chisinau to proceed their way to membership of the European Union, despite attempts by Russia to interfere.

– The consequence of the vote is not a triumph of 1 party, but a triumph of the full country. Yesterday's elections gave a strong mandate to join the EU," said Sandu at a press conference on 29 September. She thanked citizens for their opposition to Russian propaganda and attempts to buy votes.

The president pointed out that Moscow would proceed to effort to intimidate Moldova and turn it backfrom the European course. – It is clear that Russia will not quit its activities entirely, but citizens have proven that we are a worthy and courageous nation. Moldova is simply a tiny but strong country – she stressed.

Maia Sandu called for social unity, pointing out that regardless of electoral preferences, all citizens should contribute to the improvement of the state.

According to authoritative results, after calculating 100 percent of the ruling pro-Western Action organization and Solidarity (PAS) won 50.2% of support, gaining a stand-alone majority in parliament.
