ATLANTA- Delta Air Lines (DL) is expanding its Hawaii network with a new nonstop route from Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) to Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport (KOA). This seasonal service, launching in December, will enhance travel options to the Hawaiian Islands.

In addition to the new route, Delta will increase capacity on several existing Hawaii routes next winter. The airline plans to deploy larger aircraft and add more frequent flights, particularly during peak travel periods.

Delta New Salt Lake City to Hawaii Flights

Delta’s latest expansion will introduce a nonstop connection between Salt Lake City (SLC) and Kona (KOA) starting December 19, 2025.

The route will operate through March 28, 2026, utilizing the Boeing 767-300ER. However, Delta does not plan to equip this service with Premium Select recliners, as some of its 767-300 aircraft lack this cabin configuration, TPG reported.

This new addition makes Kona the third Hawaiian destination served from Salt Lake City, alongside Honolulu (HNL) and Maui (OGG).

It also becomes Delta’s third route to Kona, complementing existing services from Los Angeles (LAX) and Seattle-Tacoma (SEA).

Salt Lake City has seen steady growth in Delta’s operations, with the airline increasing total departures by 5% in early 2025.

Additionally, Delta is set to unveil a new Delta Sky Club at SLC later this year, one of its largest airport lounges.

Expanded Capacity on Existing Hawaii Routes

Beyond the new Salt Lake City-Kona service, Delta is making significant adjustments to its Hawaii network:

  • Atlanta (ATL) to Maui (OGG): Delta will start its seasonal A330-300 service earlier than usual, launching on November 6, 2025.
  • Atlanta (ATL) to Honolulu (HNL): The airline will operate twice-daily flights between December 19 and January 5, accommodating increased holiday travel demand.
  • Salt Lake City (SLC) to Maui (OGG): Delta will launch this route on October 6, 2025, with an additional daily flight during the holiday season.
  • Minneapolis-St. Paul (MSP) to Honolulu (HNL): Delta is upgrading this winter service by replacing the Boeing 767-300ER with the Airbus A330-300, which offers four cabin classes, including Delta One lie-flat suites.

These changes reflect Delta’s strategic effort to meet rising demand for Hawaii travel while enhancing comfort and capacity for passengers.
