Czech president Petr Pavel estimated on Wednesday that the United States' request that another NATO states engage in a conflict in the mediate East is contrary to the mission of the alliance, and that withdrawal from it would be a serious test for another members.
– First of all, it is crucial to realize that NATO was created as a defence alliance whose primary mission is the collective defence of the territories of the associate States. The United States is not under attack and Iran is not an alliance member. Therefore, calling on NATO to engage in conflict in the mediate East is incompatible with the reasons and principles on which NATO was founded," Pavel told journalists.
According to the Czech President, if any associate of the alliance were to consider withdrawing, the others would gotta consider what measures to take to keep the collective defence principle.
– I am convinced that the alliance makes sense not only for European countries but besides for Canada and the United States. If 1 of the members were to perform, the alliance could inactive function, although it would require considerable effort from all,” Pavel said.
U.S. president Donald Trump, in a Wednesday interview with the British regular telegraph newspaper, one more time criticized European allies for not supporting the US-Israeli military operation against Iran, called NATO a "paper tiger" and said he was seriously considering withdrawing the US from the alliance. The announcement of considering the withdrawal of the country from NATO later repeated in an interview with Reuter's agency.
