The black guy postpones the abortion debate. Partnerships first

pro-life.pl 4 weeks ago

Speaker of the Sejm Vladimir Czarzasty announced that abortion talks would not begin until the beginning of next year. In an interview with PAP, he openly admitted that the government wanted to first deal with the law on partnerships and the position of the alleged closest person. Only after this work has been completed will Members return to abortion.

Although the extraordinary board on abortion projects has not gathered in over a year, the marshals do not intend to intervene for the time being. He stressed that the governing coalition wants to "agree" on the issue of partnerships, due to the fact that arrangements have already been made and are waiting for formal implementation.

It is simply a bill that is intended to give people surviving in informal relationships, among others, access to medical information, regulation of property union, issues of inheritance and alimony, right To a common apartment.

According to Czarzasty, the task will go to the Sejm by the end of the year – this is the consequence of talks with Minister Catherine Kotula and Minister Maciej Berk.

Four abortion projects are waiting in line

When the Commission last met last July, there were 4 highly different projects:

Left: decriminalization of abortion. The task has already been rejected – with the voices of the Law and Justice, the Confederation and most of the PSL. Still, the Left folded it again.

Left + KO: abortion on request until 12th week. It's the most liberal offer to let abortion for any reason.

Poland 2050 + PSL: back to compromise. The draft envisages a return to the rules in force before the 2020 Constitutional Court judgment.

Meanwhile, the current government allows abortion only:

  • when life is at risk, or Health women,
  • when pregnancy was caused by a prohibited act (until week 12).

Following the 2021 judgement of the Constitutional Tribunal, the anticipation of abortion was removed due to severe foetal defects, which sparked mass protests.

Is moving the debate a strategy or an escape?

What is truly behind the Black man's decision? Moving abortion talks to the beginning of next year raises questions about motivation behind the decision of the talker of the Sejm. Although Vladimir Czarzasty portrays it as a substance of legislative order, political scenes can be more complex.

Abortion remains 1 of the hottest topics of Polish policy, and all effort to liberalise it immediately evokes strong emotions. The postponement of the debate can so be a cold calculation to defend the coalition from interior tensions. Czarzasty does not hide that he does not want to lead 2 worldview disputes simultaneously – parallel work on partnerships and abortion projects could paralyze the work of the Sejm. There is besides an effort in the background to calm social sentiments. The Association Act itself raises lively discussion; adding abortion to it could only increase protests.

Life is not a point in the schedule

It is hard to get free of the impression that the issue of abortion can be treated as part of a political puzzle in the Sejm – moved, frozen and pulled out erstwhile convenient. And the stakes are not the points in the polls, but human life.

In the face of attempts to return to the laws that would let abortion until the 12th week "on request", as well as a re-disclosure of the decriminalisation of abortion, it is essential to remind that all kid – besides sick, weaker, inactive unborn – has an inalienable dignity which the state should defender with the highest care. In this context, next year's talks cannot be just a political fair, but must be an chance to defend those who cannot defend themselves.
