Euro MPs of various factions call for the full cut-off of EU funds in the letter, ARD reports.

Members of the European Parliament of the various factions in the joint letter call on the European Commission to cut off Hungarians of all EU funds," ARD reports.

The MEPs include chadecs, social democrats, liberals and greens. This is to put more force on Hungary and cut off Viktor Orbán's government backing for good. “Anyone who shows zero concern about respecting EU values deserves zero euro from the EU budget,” says German Liberal Moritz Körner.

As noted by German Green associate Daniel Freund, who is the initiator of the letter, it is about protecting the EU's financial interests and thus European taxpayers.

There are attacks.

In fresh years, billions of euro have already been frozen from EU funds due to the country due to corruption and the deficiency of independent judiciary in Hungary.

– However, we see that in 2 and a half years of sanctions, nothing has improved," says Freund quoted by the ARD. On the contrary, "there are further attacks on independent civilian society, free media, freedom of speech and further on the independency of the judiciary all week," mentions the German Euro MP. “This is why we are talking very, very clearly now: this has to stop,” he adds.

Against minorities and NGOs

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán is taking increasingly stringent action against minorities and NGOs. In mid-March, his government adopted a bill which severely restricts the freedom of assembly and prohibits the June Equality Parade, which aims, among others, at demonstrating the rights of LGBT+ people.

A fewer days ago, the Orbána organization – Fidesz – submitted a draft law on the 'transparency of public life', which, like Russia, provides for harsh action against all organisations that "violate the sovereignty of Hungary, conducting actions affecting public life with support from abroad".
