China at the UN: We condemn the US's actions towards Venezuela

Sun Lei, acting as the Permanent typical of China to the United Nations on 5 January, at an extraordinary public safety Council gathering on the situation in Venezuela, stated that China is profoundly shocked by the unilateral, illegal and violent actions of the US and powerfully condemns them.

The Chinese side calls on the United States to respect global law and the objectives and principles of the United Nations Charter, to halt violating the sovereignty and safety of another countries, to halt overthrowing the government Venezuela and return to the way of political problem solving through dialog and negotiation.

China calls on the US to guarantee individual safety for Venezuelan president Maduro and his spouse and their immediate release. They shall assist the safety Council in the implementation of its work for maintaining global peace and safety and shall support any effort by the UN Secretary-General, the countries of the region and organisations that may contribute to promoting dialog and de-escalation.

China is ready to cooperate with the countries of the region and the global community, to strengthen unity and cooperation, to respect justice and equality, and to jointly keep peace and stableness in the Latin American and Caribbean region.
