The speech caused quite a few controversy. The lawyer General felt that the limit of acceptable criticism had been exceeded.
— Zbigniew Ziobra’s message clearly violates Adam Bodnar’s individual interests. The lawyer General will take legal action on their content,” said Virtual Poland Anna Adamiak, Advocate General.
The conflict between Bodnar and Ziobra is not new, but fresh events have importantly exacerbated political tensions. In the background of the full case is the death of Barbara Skrzypek, a longtime associate of Jarosław Kaczyński.
Ziorbro under fire. Bodnar takes the case to court
The erstwhile Minister of Justice and the leader of the Sovereign Poland spared no strong words against Adam Bodnar and his prosecution. On air in Poland24 he spoke about the alleged bias of prosecutors:
— There is no prosecutor in the prosecutor's office... who is more fierce, more hateful, more politicized and stubborn in the sense of behavior, full of venom towards the environment, which he represents and embodies, first of all, Jarosław Kaczyński, than Mrs.
Later, the erstwhile minister severely attacked Bodnar, claiming that the decisions to delegate cases to certain prosecutors were political.
— To entrust this act to this individual shows that present we are dealing with bandits. We're dealing with a lawyer General who's not just a criminal, he's a gangster and a thug. And I say it with all responsibility," he added.
These words caused the immediate reaction of Adam Bodnar and his associates. The Minister of Justice felt that Ziobra's message exceeded the limits of acceptable criticism and announced that the case should be brought to trial.
The Death of Barbara Violins and Political Controversy
Ziobry's statements fell in the context of the death of Barbara Skrzypek, a longtime associate of Jarosław Kaczyński. The violin died abruptly on March 15, 3 days after being interviewed at the D.A.'s office in connection with the alleged "two towers case".
The proceeding took place on 12 March and afraid an investigation into bringing Austrian businessman Gerald Birgfellner to an adverse regulation with a property of at least EUR 1.3 million. The violinist, as a associate of the Management Board of the Silver Company and the Lech Kaczyński Institute, was interviewed as a witness.
The death of Violins caused a wave of speculation, especially in the PiS environment, where there were suggestions that her death might have been related to the interrogation. Sam Jarosław Kaczyński stated that Violin “was victim to the villains who led to her death,” said TVN24.
Reprosecution action and Bodnar position
The prosecution powerfully denied that the proceeding had an impact on Violin's health. Piotr Skiba, spokesperson for the territory Attorney's Office in Warsaw, stressed that:
— The proceeding took place in a very good atmosphere, as he assured TVN24.
Adam Bodnar besides opposed the proposition that the death of the Violins was the consequence of the prosecution's actions.
— I object to the statements that appear in the public space indicating the apparent connection between the death of Mrs. Barbara Skrzypek and the act of questioning as a witness with her, 3 days earlier," Bodnar stressed.
