Warsaw, August 22, 2025. The territory Court receives an indictment that may be the beginning of 1 of the loudest trials of fresh years. The D.A.'s list includes erstwhile National Defence Minister Mariusz Błaszczak and current head of the National safety Bureau Sławomir Cenckiewicz. Agnieszka Glapiak, present president of the National Broadcasting and tv Council, and Piotr Z., erstwhile manager of the Department of defence strategy and Planning of the MON, are besides to respond with them.
Declassification of the “Wart” plan and political storm
The investigation concerns Błaszczak's decision of 2023, when, as the head of the MON, he removed the "secret" and "close secret" clauses from fragments of the Polish Armed Forces' operational plan codenamed "Warta" and the 2015 Political and strategical Defence Directive. These papers find how the army operates in the event of a possible conflict and have so far been covered by the highest degree of protection. The revealed passages went to the Law and Justice campaign, as well as to the documentary series "Reset", co-authored by Cenckiewicz.
The D.A. accuses the erstwhile Minister of exceeding his powers and acting against the public interest. According to investigators, the disclosure of strategical papers could exposure Poland to highly serious harm and fragments utilized in the public space were ripped out of context. In the case of Cenckiewicz and Piotr Z., the indictment besides points to individual benefits of utilizing materials in media production.
Political prosecution or real threat
Mariusz Błaszczak presents the case from the beginning as a political gameplay. “This is an act of revenge by Donald Tusk” – he wrote in an emotional entry on the X platform, adding that he did not regret his decision. He emphasizes that if he had to choose again, he would have declassified the papers again, due to the fact that – he claims – the public should know the defence plans of erstwhile governments, assuming defence only on the Vistula line.
This is not an indictment, and Donald Tusk's revenge against me has been brought to court. This is the price I pay for revealing plans of the first PO-PSL government to give almost half of Poland without a fight. If I had faced this dilemma again, I would have declassified...
— Mariusz Błaszczak (@mblaszczak) August 22, 2025Sławomir Cenckiewicz took a akin tone. “I was and I am innocent! I never broke the law!” – wrote, suggesting that the investigation was an effort to silence critics and political revenge. Cenckiewicz emphasizes that he is happy about moving the case to the courtroom, where he claims he will be able to defend himself in procedural alternatively than media terms.
I'm so glad the case went to court!
I can defend myself in a court of law.
The investigation conducted by Proc. Marcin Maksjan marked many irregularities, which became the origin of 2 notifications about the anticipation of committing a crime.... https://t.co/Z9zJwU06eR
A process that can change the rules of the game
The ‘worthy’ case goes far beyond the judicial framework. This is simply a fight for the limits of the transparency of public life and the work of politicians for decisions concerning national security. For any Błaszczak and Cenckiewicz are people who broke the rules, putting the country at risk. For others – politicians who revealed the uncomfortable fact about the defence strategy of erstwhile governments.
An indictment of 34 public parties and 11 classified parties opens a lengthy process in which the court will gotta answer the question: whether the actions of the erstwhile head of the MON and his associates were an abuse of power or an effort of transparency in the name of the public interest.
"Value" as a political symbol
The “Wart” case is not only a legal issue but besides a political hot potato. Will Mariusz Błaszczak and Sławomir Cenckiewicz convince the court that they acted in the public interest? Or will the prosecution prove that their decisions compromised Poland's security? 1 thing is certain – this process will be 1 of the loudest in Polish politics in the coming months.
