Shortly after Trump announced "reciprocal duties" on goods imported into the USA from another Albanian countries, he stressed that this decision was not unexpected, but the 10% customs duties for Australia were "totally unjustified".
“President Trump referred to reciprocal tariffs. The reciprocal tariff would be zero, not 10%," the Prime Minister of Australia said. In his opinion, Trump's decisions “are not based on logic” and “are not the actions of a friend”.
Australia does not intend to impose retaliation duties on the US
Albanese estimated that it was yet the Americans who would pay the most for Trump's trade war and so not intend to impose retaliation duties on goods from the US, said the Australian regular telegraph.
President Donald Trump signed on Wednesday a regulation on "reciprocal duties" for goods imported into the US. The rates vary from country to country, but they are at a minimum of 10%, and that is precisely the rate foreseen for Australia. For many another countries, duties are higher — for goods from EU countries are 20%, for China – 34%, for Japan – 24%.
