On 25–26 February, Friedrich Merz (CDU) visited China for the first time as Chancellor. During a joint message to the press together with the Secretary-General of the Communist organization of China (CCPC) and president of the People's Republic of China (PRC) Xi Jinping stressed that it is in the interests of both countries to cooperate, whose framework is "exceptionally good". Both parties agreed to address existing problems through dialog and supported efforts to "sustain arms and lasting peace in Ukraine on the basis of the United Nations Charter".
