Artificial Intelligence (AI) will become a primary and compulsory subject in primary and secondary schools in Zhejiang Province, announced on Thursday the authorities at the Digital Education 2023 conference.
Information technology has late become a compulsory discipline in the examination gaokao, a national admission exam for college, which is equivalent to our GED. Therefore, the educational authorities of Zhejiang state felt that the introduction of AI courses in primary and secondary schools would aid students prepare decently for future studies.
Last year, the state of Zhejiang proposed to advance the deep integration of cognition about artificial intelligence into curricula during compulsory school education (from 6 to 18 years of age) and to build an AI education strategy in primary and secondary schools.
The city of Wenzhou began to popularize AI courses in primary and secondary schools throughout the city. According to the urban improvement plan, by the end of this year 700 schools will carry out a pilot AI education course, and 60 schools will become demonstration centres for AI education.
By 2025, a full of 1,000 schools with a pilot profile and 100 mention schools will operate in Wenzhou for the training of children and young people in cognition of artificial intelligence. The city's educational authorities announced that they would finance primary and secondary schools in their respective fields of both artificial intelligence courses and specialised laboratories to supply applicable classes.
