Decisions of the Pentagon chief
In early June, Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth announced appointment of General Grynkewich as Head of European Command (EUCOM) and at the same time as the chief allied commander in Europe (SACEUR).
Grynkewich is to replace the current commander of the U.S. and NATO forces General Christopher Cavol, who has held this function since July 2022. Before taking over fresh command, Grynkewich must get the Senate's approval.
The nomination ends earlier speculation, saying that the Donald Trump administration may abandon the tradition to date, so that the EUCOM commander is besides the commander of NATO forces in Europe. The congressmen of both parties expressed strong opposition to leaving this solution.
