Air and Sea run for Snake Island

For Operational Command “South” of the SZU, 1 of the key developments in April-May was the air-to-sea run for control of the strategically located, albeit small, Snake Island. The operation was phased, with crucial forces of the aforementioned DO “Piwdeń” active - air, sea, peculiar and artillery. The tiny Snake Island, or Ostriv Zmijinyj (only 0.205 km²), is of strategical importance - located in the Danube delta, erstwhile setting up anti-aircraft or anti-ship systems there, it allows you to control the coast of Romania and the sea transfer to Odessa.
