Spanish councilman and LGBTQ+ activist, Víctor Sáez, experienced violent assault by Turkish restaurant workers in Murcia. Although the councilman was not seriously injured, the case went to court. The restaurant workers who attacked him will face justice.
Does tolerance work both ways?
The incidental caused a storm in Spanish media, especially since Sáez is known for actively supporting immigrants. Many commentators draw attention to the hypocrisy of the situation – those who fight for equality themselves are the victims of those whose weapons they defend.
Must Western Europe face increasing intolerance from any immigrant groups? That question remains open.
