Karol Nawrocki finishes his first year of presidency with 41 vetos, and the effects of his decision become the axis of an acute dispute with the government. Meanwhile, Ukraine launched an attack on a Russian refinery located over 700 kilometres from the border. This morning reminds that Poland must at the same time guarantee the quality of its own country and powerfully measure the situation beyond the east border.

Year of president's veto

Karol Nawrocki ends his first year of office with a evidence number of 41 wet. This is simply a balance sheet that shows the scale of tension between the Presidential Palace and the majority of the government. Veto is simply a constitutional control tool, not a political offense. The president has the right to hold laws if he considers them contrary to the State's interests or ill-prepared.

However, the consequence alone is not adequate to measure the quality of the presidency. Each of the 41 wets must be considered separately: what the bill contained, what the costs were and whether the government could build a wider majority for it. Poland needs effective fuses, but it cannot afford permanent paralysis of institutions. State efficiency and work for public money are at stake.

Dispute over billions and political motives

According to estimates of money.pl vetoed bills could reduce the gross of the budget by up to PLN 7.3 billion. It's respect, not a closed failure account, so you can't present it as a clear fact. However, the amount is so serious that it requires a precise settlement from both parties: the government should show the real effects of the laws, and the Presidential Palace should clearly justify why their detention served Poland.

More than half of the respondents believe that the President's decisions are political. It is hard to anticipate that the decisions of the head of state are completely detached from politics. The real question is: whether political choice protects citizens' interests or serves only organization war. Poles have the right to request answers based on the content of laws, not on common accusations.

Ukraine reaches far into Russia

The second crucial event in the morning is the Ukrainian attack on a Russian refinery located over 700 kilometres from the border. The impact on the fuel infrastructure shows an expanding scope of Ukrainian activities and an effort to reduce the backdrop that supports the Russian war machine. The origin does not give a scale of damage, so any further progressing assessments would be premature.

For Poland the importance is direct. The war in Ukraine remains a key safety origin for the full region, and Kiev's ability to destruct the Russian backdrop affects Moscow's calculations. Polish politics must be deluded here: to support defence against Russian aggression, to strengthen their own army and at the same time to defender Polish interests in all financial and military decision.

Two lessons for the Polish state

The national dispute over presidential vetoes and the war behind our east border is among the various orders, but leads to a common conclusion. The state must have strong control mechanisms, clear accounts and ability to operate under pressure. Without this, constitutional tools turn into fuel of organization conflict, and safety policy becomes a collection of responses to another people's movements.

Polish business requires maturity on both sides of the political barricade. The president should account for the government in the quality of the law, the government should account for the president in the consequences of the veto, and both sides have a work to strengthen the safety of the Republic. This is what Poles should require after the first year of the presidency.
