November 8th, marks the 110th anniversary of the death of Karolina Kózkina. She died in the woods, next to her house, defending herself against rape. The girl was killed by a Russian soldier during planet War I. On Monday, the Apostolic Nuncio will arrive in Poland.

Karolina Kózkówna was born on 2 August 1898 in a multi-children household in the Podtarnian village of Wal-Ruda. Despite her young age and deficiency of specialized education, she was an animator and leader of spiritual life. She belonged to spiritual associations, taught catechism to children from the village, organized classes for them, prepared to receive Holy Communion of sick fellow citizens. She helped run a private library for her uncle Francis Borzęcki, enabling adults to access spiritual literature.
Sensitive to the needs of the sick and the poor, she visited their homes and supported them in their needs. She was an example of industriousness and honesty and a sense of work for the family. By her attitude she gained widespread designation and respect among fellow residents who said she was “the first soul to heaven”. She died heroicly, defending the dignity of a female on November 18, 1914, erstwhile she was attacked by a Russian soldier who brutally murdered her.
