Ombudsman ZUS, reiterates that pensioners and pensioners have the chance to work and make extra money, but there are certain limits on earnings. Crossing these limits may consequence in a simplification or suspension of the benefits paid by the Social Insurance Institution. It is worth remembering that higher limits will apply from 1 December.

Żebrowski stresses that persons who make up their early retirement or pension must be aware that additional income may affect the amount of the benefit received. If the income achieved exceeds certain thresholds – 70% and 130% of the average monthly remuneration – ZUS has the right to reduce or suspend payment of benefits, as recalled by the Ombudsman ZUSPaweł Żebrowski.

Making extra money for retirement. There are fresh thresholds

The profit limits are changed all 3 months, and Żebrowski pointed out that from December 2023 to February 2024 the amount of PLN 5036.50 gross will be securely paid. This is over PLN 132 more per period compared to the erstwhile period.

If the earnings do not exceed this amount per month, the Social Insurance Institution will not reduce the pension paid. However, in order to avoid the payment of the benefit by the Zakład, the additional income in December, January and February should not exceed PLN 9353.50 gross," Żebrowski noted.

It is worth noting that income higher than 70% (5036.50 PLN gross), but little than 130% (9353.50 PLN gross) of the average monthly salary, will consequence in a simplification of the benefit by an excess amount, but not more than the maximum simplification amount. This amount is PLN 794.35 for pensions for full incapacity for work, PLN 595.80 for partial incapacity for work and PLN 675.24 for household pensions for which 1 individual is entitled.

Their limits do not apply, but there is an exception

The ZUS Ombudsman stresses that the income limits do not apply to pensioners who have exceeded the retirement age (60/65 years). However, the exception to this regulation is seniors whose Social safety Office has raised the pension to the minimum benefit amount (currently as of March of PLN 1588.44 gross). In specified a situation, if the income from work exceeds the fixed amount of the increase to the minimum pension, the benefit will be paid in a lower amount, i.e. without any additional minimum surcharge.
