Kamila Gasiuk-Pihowicz from the Civic Coalition, Anna Maria Żukowska from the Left, Tomasz Zimoch from Poland 2050 and Robert Kropiwnicki from KO were elected present (14.11.2023) by the Sejm as fresh members of the National Judicial Council.
Marek Ast, Kazimierz Smoliński, Bartosz Kownacki and Arkadiusz Mularczyk have been members of the National Judicial Council for the Sejm so far. present they did not gain the support of the parliamentary majority and will no longer sit in the KRS. 193 MPs voted for Mark Ast, Arkadiusz Mularczyk and Kazimierz Smoliński – 192 and Bartosz Kownacki – 191 MPs. Kamila Gasiuk-Pihowicz and Tomasz Zimoch received 246 votes, Robert Kropiwnicki – 243, and Anna Maria Żukowska – 245 votes.
The KRS is simply a constitutional body obliged to uphold the independency of courts and the independency of judges, existing since 1989. It is not a judicial authority.
