Margaret Kidawa-Błońska (KO) is likely to stay the legislature marshal in the second half of his term. Politicians of the Civic Coalition in talks with PAP admit that the cancellation of the current marshal would only be considered in the event of a serious renegotiation of the coalition agreement.
The only script of the change would be the transfer of the legislature marshal's seat to another coalition party, for example to Poland 2050 alternatively of the promised post of Deputy Prime Minister. Today, however, specified developments seem unlikely.
Findings of the Coalition Agreement
The coalition agreement of 10 November 2023 between KO, Poland 2050, PSL and fresh Left clearly set out the agenda of changes in the most crucial positions. The paper was not only intended to replace the Speakers of the Sejm in the mediate of his word - Szymon Hołownia (Poland 2050) is to replace Włodzimierz Czarzasta (New Left).
Point 6 of the "Rules of the Coalition" provides directly: "The candidate of the coalition for the Marshal of the legislature of Poland from 13 November 2023 to 13 November 2025 is Ms Margaret Kidawa-Błońska. The candidate for the Marshal of the Polish legislature for the period from 14 November 2025 until the end of the word of office will indicate the Civic Coalition".
Official position of the party
KO politicians officially guarantee that the subject of the change of the legislature marshal in mid-November does not exist. According to Senator KO, erstwhile Deputy Marshal of the legislature of Gabriela Morawska-Stanecka, Kidawa-Błońska is simply a very good marshal and should stay in this position.
In unofficial talks, KO politicians admit that although Donald Tusk (KO) in 2023 promised Thomas Grodzki to return to the post of marshal in the second half of the term, specified a script is now unlikely. "Malgosia is the best solution for Tusk, due to the fact that she is simply a woman, and she does not betray excessive political ambitions and does not pose a threat that she will be playing games" - said KO politician who wants to stay anonymous.
Mutual blocking of candidates
Another KO politician indicates that in the legislature there are 4 candidates for a possible successor to Kidawa-Błońska. Tomasz Grodzki, Rafał Grupiński, Grzegorz Schetyna and Sławomir Rybicki are mentioned - but no of them have a chance, due to the fact that they block each other.
Declarations by Marshal Kidawa-Błońska
Kidawa-Błońska herself repeatedly suggested that she would like to stay as the marshal. Last week on Radio Zet asked if she wanted to be a marshal for another 2 years, she replied, "Of course she did."
"We started quite a few interesting things in the Senate. The legislature had to change its work due to the fact that now we operate in a somewhat different conditions than in the erstwhile term, erstwhile the marshal was Marshal Tomasz Grodzki. We have started again the tasks of support and cooperation with Polonia. There's quite a few public consultation. There are discussions and conferences on various topics. We work out different solutions, which I am very happy with" - said Kidawa-Błońska. erstwhile asked about the authoritative announcement of the candidate's readiness, she admitted that the talks on this subject had not yet begun.
In consequence to Prime Minister Tusk's possible promise of a full word seat, Kidawa-Błońska replied that the Prime Minister had told her to be a good marshal and to do her occupation as best she could. "The agreement was for 2 years and what will happen next - we will see" - she noted.
Position of erstwhile Grodzki Marshal
Former legislature marshal, presently head of the legislature club KO Tomasz Grodzki estimated that "all options are possible", but does not see "any peculiar tension in the legislature in this matter". "In my opinion, unlike the Sejm in the Senate, this does not inspire any peculiar emotions" - said Grodzki.
"This is simply a part of the puzzle between coalition leaders, so whoever will take this position for the next 2 years will be part of a larger leadership conversation" - added Senator. erstwhile asked about his own ambitions, he replied that the question "would he like" was not right: "It is not a substance of wanting. I believe that if individual receives specified a proposal, they will approach it with due attention and a large sense of responsibility."
Poland 2050 excludes the marshal's seat
Poland's 2050 politicians categorically exclude the script of their group taking the seat of the legislature marshal in exchange for resigning from the Deputy Prime Minister. "I very much appreciate Mrs. Marshal Kidawa-Błońska, and I hope that she will proceed to hold this position until the end of her term. I do not presume a change in this position, and I surely do not "paint shoes" to the position of the Marshal of the Senate" - said PAP Deputy Marshal of the legislature Maciej Żywno (Poland 2050).
"There is no conversation at all about taking up the function of legislature marshal. We want to take work for the management, and that would be to take the seat of Deputy Prime Minister" - said PAP head of Polish club 2050 Paweł Sliz. "Pacta sunt servanda. We anticipate that the agreement concerning the Deputy Prime Minister will be respected for us, so we are besides obliged to keep the agreement on the Marshal of the Sejm" - added Sliz.
On the question of a script in which Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz will not become Deputy Prime Minister until 13 November, The slide replied that he trusted Prime Minister Tusk due to the fact that "this coalition is simply a coalition of friendship". "I can't imagine breaking coalition arrangements" - he stressed.
