Bots, false accounts and coordinated information campaigns – the modern war is not only on the battlefield but besides on the web. Therefore, the Polish Armed Forces prepare AIRON – their own artificial intelligence platform, and press officers learn to usage AI to respond more rapidly to misinformation.

The military is reaching for fresh tools in the fight against disinformation. The Ministry of Defence develops AIRON – an artificial intelligence platform for the armed forces, and social communications officers learn to usage AI to monitor information space, communicate efficiently and respond faster to false narratives. 30 officers from different levels of command and analysts took part in the training held at the office of the Cyberspace defence Army. – This is the first artificial intelligence course dedicated to communicators in the armed forces. Press officers do not always know how to usage AI tools and how to build prompties. This course is intended to change it," explains Jakub Block, Deputy manager of the Department of Communications and Promotion of the MON.
The training was conducted by instructors from the NATO strategical Communications Centre of Excellence in Riga, which develops the competences of allied states in the area of strategical communication. To date, Poland could only send a fewer people a year to Latvia, as the number of seats on this course was limited. If we were to train all the press officers like this, it would take us years. Organizing the course in Poland allowed to train a much larger group of people erstwhile – added Jakub Block.
AI in the fight against misinformation
A increasing wave of misinformation in the network, especially in the context of the war in Ukraine, forces the Armed Forces of Poland to scope for modern tools. False narratives and repetitive content spread rapidly – from manipulated photos on social networks to mass-sented fake news suggesting Poland's "hidden intentions" on the east border where it is created “The Tartar East”, or false information about Ukraine's alleged division. frequently behind them are organized networks of fake accounts and bots, making it hard for press officers to respond effectively. – If we respond besides late, we lose information space and our messages are flooded with misinformation. That is why it is so crucial to usage the AI safely and consciously in the work of press officers – emphasises Jakub Block from the Ministry of National Defence.
The course so includes both theoretical and applicable aspects: officers learn to build promptels, plan information campaigns, organize work and tasks with AI agents, individual information activities as well as messages or posts, and usage AI tools already available in the armed forces, and monitor and pre-identify information threats. Artificial intelligence can importantly accelerate data analysis, but – as the military points out – it is not infallible. – AI may prepare a draft message, but at the end, a man must always check it out. 1 must remember the alleged hallucinations of models and the fact that AI has no operational cognition and cannot have it until it works in a military closed system," points out Jakub Block.
Therefore, in the process of military communication, AI is expected to service as a supporting tool, not as a substitute for spokespersons, in order to respond more rapidly to organised and well-paid disinformation campaigns.
AIRON fresh MON tool
The Ministry of Defence introduces a fresh interior artificial intelligence platform – AIRON, which is to support press officers, analysts and command in faster consequence to false information. The strategy acts as a safe hub – allows processing of data in public networks, as well as classified information. The plans besides include a mobile version, AIRON EDGE, intended for field and operational activities. According to Colonel Paweł Augustynowicz of the Centre for Artificial Implication of MON Intelligence, AIRON is simply a central, safe point of access to AI tools for the full resort. – Helps standardize the usage of artificial intelligence in authoritative processes and ensures full control of data, access and audit. respond immediately without the hazard that the data will leak outside the military network," he explains.
By analyzing patterns of publication and account activity, the strategy can detect repetitive content, bots or coordinated actions. “In short: AIRON is expected to give us an advantage in the information war, where the pace of spreading false content is frequently incredibly fast,” adds Colonel Augustynowicz.
Artificial intelligence thus becomes a key tool in the work of cyberspace defence troops. It's already working in 3 areas. – From ministry platforms, to ICT environment support solutions, to data fusion tools and decision support for command systems. The binder of all these tools is the Centre for Artificial Implication of Intelligence, which combines the possible of the military, discipline and manufacture and is liable for the safe "last mile" of implementations into the military environment – concludes Colonel Augustynowicz.
Investment in training, platform improvement and usage of AI in cyberspace defence troops shows that Poland is preparing for fresh challenges in the network, where the pace, scale and precision of communication can find the safety of the country.
