Soldiers 20 PBOT in tribute to the Heroes of the Warsaw Uprising

On 1 August 2026 soldiers of 20 Przemysl Border Defence Brigade participated in the Przemysl celebrations of the 82nd anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising. Together with representatives of local authorities, uniforms, communist organizations and residents, they paid tribute to the Heroes, who faced an unequal fight for the freedom of the capital and independency of Poland on 1 August 1944.

The celebrations began with the Holy Mass held in the intention of the Warsaw Insurgents and all those who died in the fight for Homeland. The participants then marched to the Memorial of Przemysl Orlątów from 1918, where the authoritative part of the celebrations was held.

The military frame of the ceremony was provided by soldiers of 20 Przemysl Borderland Defence Brigade, exhibiting an honorary company, a flag rank and military honorary assistance. The ceremony began with the flag of the Republic of Poland being drawn into the mast and playing the State Hymn. The soldiers then gave the salute to the Warsaw Insurgents, emphasizing the elevated nature of the event.

During the ceremony, the invited guests gave commemorative speeches, indicating the timeless values that guided the Warsaw Uprisings – courage, work and boundless devotion to the Homeland. The culmination of the celebrations was the laying of flowers and inflammation under the Memorial of the Przemysl Eagles. During the ceremony, the military's honorary assistance served on watch at the monument, giving the ceremony due ceremonial and military character.

For Territorials, service is not only a willingness to act for the safety of residents, but besides a concern for preserving national identity and respect for history.

Warsaw Uprising – memory of the top independency spur

The Warsaw Uprising broke out on 1 August 1944 at 5 p.m. – hr ‘In’ – by order of the National Army Command. It was the culmination of the “Burza” campaign, which aimed to liberate Warsaw from German business before the Red Army entered and to show the sovereignty of the Polish Underground State.
Around 40–50,000 Home Army soldiers, supported by the residents of the capital, entered the fight. Despite large determination and many successes in the first days of fighting, insurgents had limited weapons and did not receive the expected assistance from outside. The fights lasted 63 days, becoming a symbol of extraordinary heroism and self-sacrifice.

On October 2, 1944, an act of surrender was signed. As a consequence of the Uprising, about 16-18 1000 insurgents died and from 150 to 180 1000 residents of Warsaw. After the fighting ended, the Germans proceeded to plan to destruct the city, bringing down a crucial part of its construction. Although the Uprising ended with a military defeat, it was permanently recorded in past as a symbol of the conflict for freedom, honor and independency of the Polish people.

The participation of soldiers of the 20th Przemysl Border Defence Brigade, including the honorary company, the banner post and the military honorary assistance, in the celebration of the 82nd anniversary of the outbreak of the Warsaw Uprising, is an expression of respect for participants of this heroic event and a reminder that the memory of their dedication remains the foundation of modern patriotism and the ethos of service of the Polish soldier.
