The case of Anna Skolbuszewski, acting on social media under the pseudonym "Admiral Nyav", one more time sparked a discussion about the real scenes pro Ukrainian charity. The female has been portrayed for years as a committed volunteer supporting Ukrainian soldiers. The image of a selfless helper on the front built the trust of thousands of people who contributed money to medical assistance for the fighters. Today, however, there are serious doubts over this story. It's on the table. stealing serious sums of money.
A well-known volunteer was expected to bargain aid for Ukraine. According to reports from parts of the media and individuals associated with aid organisations, Skolbuszewska is suspected of misappropriating any of the funds from the collection. The money that was to be spent on acquisition of medical equipment or support of medics to evacuate wounded from the front was to any degree to be spent on private purposes, including abroad travel and gambling. It must be stressed that the case has not yet ended with a final judgement of the court, but the suspicions themselves have provoked outrage among donors.
This communicative hits something much bigger than 1 person's reputation. Since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, thousands of grassroots relief initiatives have been created. Many of them are authentic and do huge, frequently underestimated work. In parallel, however, there was besides a dangerous trend – the net “volunteers” who can turn the drama of war into profitable business.
Social media created perfect conditions for this. Just a fewer pictures from the front, any emotional entries and a communicative about the urgently needed help. Moved people transfer money, frequently without checking who actually stands behind the collection and where the funds go. However, the financial transparency of these activities was minimal and the accounts, if any, functioned only superficially and remains.
Under specified conditions, pseudovolunteers are born. These are people who can build their image perfectly: they print pictures in tactical vests, pose with ambulances or convoys with help. From the outside, it looks like heroic humanitarian activity. In practice, however, private interests, self-promotion and money are hidden behind the scenes, which never scope where they should.
The Skolbuszewski case is not the only one. In January this year. We've been describing a thread. OMZRiK foundation of the criminal Rafał Gawł, who raised over PLN 100 1000 for terrain cars for Ukrainian territorial defence. The Foundation refused to disclose papers related to the acquisition and transfer of vehicles to the Ukrainian side. There's an investigation going on. Ukrainians were besides stealing financial and financial aid. The net repeatedly ran around materials on which Polish humanitarian aid was seen, sold in commercial stores far from the front.
Every communicative like this hurts a fewer real volunteers. They pay the highest price for losing trust. As another scandal unfolds, donors begin to uncertainty all the collections. As a result, those who truly save lives – doctors, rescuers and organizations operating on the front.
Skolbuszewska and OMZRiK – regardless of their final decisions – should be a warning. Helping during war cannot be based solely on emotions and net popularity. Each collection should have clear rules, public accounts and real expenditure control.
War is simply a tragedy for millions of people. If individual tries to turn it into a origin of individual profits, covering up the slogans about humanitarian aid and supporting the “fighting Ukraine”, it is not only morally doubtful – it is simply a simple betrayal of trust for those who wanted to aid the most deprived.
