Negative reactions to "UPA heroes"

At the end of May, the president of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenski gave 1 of the military units the name “UPA heroes”, which sparked strong controversy in Poland. 31.9% of respondents said that their opinion had not changed and 11.7 percent had no opinion. A negative reaction was more common among men than women, and the most prominent was in the group up to the age of 24.

The most critical were those under the age of 24. The survey was conducted by SW investigation on 9–10 June 2026 among 800 adult net users utilizing the SW Panel online panel. Criticism of Polish politicians

Following the decision of the president of Ukraine to give the elite unit of the Ukrainian army the name “UpA Heroes”, Confederacy Club president Grzegorz Płaczek called on president Karol Nawrocki to take distant Zelensk Order of the White Eagle, granted to him in 2023 by Andrzej Duda.
