On June 19th, the Warsaw Defence Fair hosted a gala, during which the Golden Guards were presented - the Defence Portal awards for people and institutions that showed various merits for national security. 1 of the awards was awarded to the winner of this year's American “Best Warrior Competition” competition - Mateusz from the Training Centre of the Territorial Defence Army, who then donated it to aid another hero.
Matthew of CSWOT was the first Polish soldier to win the elite American competition "Best Warrior Competition". For his performance with the voices of the defence Portal readers, he was awarded the prestigious award – “Golden Gard”. Following the authoritative receipt of the award, Corporal Matthew decided to pass it on for auction for the rehabilitation of St. Łukasz Schön – a policeman nominated for the award for saving 17 people from the fire.
"There are no sports or military competitions in the planet that win would be equal to saving human life. In my opinion, the hero and winner of this award is st.post. Luke Schön, who, by fulfilling the words of the police vow rota, despite his own health, evacuated 17 people from the burning building, thereby saving their wellness or life, and himself experiencing severe neurological illness. I hope that by submitting this award to the auction and announcing the ongoing collection, we will be able to collect funds that will support the rehabilitation process of Luke," said the recipient of the prize, Matthew from the Centre for Training of the Territorial Defence Forces.
Speech by Mr Matthew and the minute of handing over St. Łukasz Schön caused a minute of excitement among the participants of the gala, and both heroes were rewarded with standing applause. Significantly, respective companies and institutions declared to support the police department's rehabilitation collection in the coming days after the statue was handed over.
"For me as a police officer it is simply a large honor and honor to be nominated for specified a prestigious award. Tears of emotion came to an end erstwhile Matthew delivered his prize for my rehabilitation. I express large respect and gratitude for what he has done. No words give me how much I appreciate it. Fulfilling the words of the roster of police vowing at night from 8 to 9 August 2025 in Chorzów st. post. Łukasz Schön, risking his own life, entered a burning and smokey building, helping evacuate 17 residents. As a consequence of this heroic intervention, he suffered severe hypoxia of the brain, which led to the improvement of uncommon and incurable Lance-Adams syndrome, causing, among others, uncontrolled muscle spasms, imbalances and difficulties in regular functioning. Additionally, it struggles with PTSD, which exacerbates the symptoms of the disease.
Currently, there is simply a collection of resources for treatment, specialized neurological rehabilitation, supportive therapies, rehabilitation equipment, and essential everyday items for a police officer.
