Poland and the Baltic countries have decided to retreat from the Ottawa Convention, which is simply a convention prohibiting the usage of anti-personnel mines. Last year the debate was launched by the current Euro MP of PiS Michał Dworczyk. Interestingly, in this case, Dworczyk praised... MP KO Joanna Kluzik-Rostkowska.

Poland and the Baltic countries will retreat from the Ottawa Convention. That's large news! besides bad it's so late, but it's very good that it's happening. Congratulations to Władysław Kosiniak-Kamish and the government for making this decision. Politically, it was not easy, until February 2022 possibly even very difficult. But Russia's full-scale attack on Ukraine changed everything. Despite interior discussion, between February 2022 and December 2023, unfortunately our government did not do so – and it was a mistake

— wrote on platform X Michał Dworczyk.

At this time, thanks to the budget secured by Mateusz Morawiecki, we were able to contract the largest arms purchases in many decades, while introducing legal changes (the Law on Defence of the Motherland) and organizational changes (including the improvement of many armed forces). No government before us (I do not even mention the current one) besides had the courage and means to make specified revolutionary decisions. But unfortunately, we did not quit the Ottawa Treaty. All the more reason to appreciate the political decision of the current parliamentary majority. Why is that important? due to the fact that the mines, which reminded brutally the war in Ukraine, are a means of combat essential for effective defence. Ukrainians found this in 2023, during a counteroffensive in the south of the country entrenched on the Sorowikin line. all day, Ukrainian and Russian soldiers on the front line find this to be actual by causing wounds and killings each day with mines.

“He added.

Yes, mines are a very inhumane countermeasure – but very effective. Cost – effect. They can be produced in bulk and cheap. By comparison, the cost of 1 simple mine starts with PLN 1,000. The cost of 155 mm projectile starts with 20 1000 PLN (prices from 2023). 2 weeks ago, I visited a brigade close Kupansk, which in 24 hours was on average a 4th of a 1000 mines. Day by day... And Ukraine has over 100 brigades... So, if we're truly reasoning about defense, then we gotta plan the engineering preparation of the site, and as a part of this, 1 of the fundamental issues is mincing. And soon, I hope, we can begin preparing for this part of building our resilience. I must admit that for any time (experience from Ukraine) mines have been my idée fix (and frankly, I have always had a weakness for high-energy materials, especially crushing ones)

“Dworczyk argued.

That is why, even as an MP of the Republic of Poland, I took a seminar in the Sejm on mines and exit from the Ottawa Convention, which is why, as a Member, I prepared a draft resolution of the Sejm (in the freezer of Marshal Simon Holown until today) calling on the government to leave the Ottawa Convention, which is why I convinced politicians of PO and PSL, I did conferences, etc., so that we could produce and usage anti-personnel mines

“the Euro MP of PiS informed.

Michał Dworczyk thanked a number of people who participated in the discussion on the withdrawal from the Ottawa Convention.

It is besides a good time to thank politicians (we live in sick times erstwhile politicians for talking to a politician from another organization can be bullied or even eliminated in their own environment) and experts for not being afraid of me (opposition policy) to meet and talk about building the defence possible of the country. I thank Paweł Bejda, Joanna Kluzik-Rostkowska, Paulina Matysiak, Radosław Fogl, Mark Jakubiak, Joanna Wich, generals: Skrzypczak, Komornicki, Bębenek, experts and journalists – Mark Budzisz, Piotr Małecki, Maciej Miłosz, Mark Świerczyński, Joanna Miziołek, Mark Kozubal, editorial board of Defence24, Jack Prusinowski, Marcin Fijołek, Jack Karnowski, Jan Złotorowicz, Katarzyna Gójska and all those who lobbied to return mines to the Polish armed forces (I hope that this was not a kiss of death – or a list of candidates for the pro-script list)

— wrote the Euro MP PiS.

I feel like we've all made a tiny contribution to today's success by raising awareness of the importance of this case. And erstwhile again, congratulations for making the decision for Władysław Kosiniak-Kamish, Paweł Bejd and the current government. This is simply a good decision for Poland! Good luck!

— he completed his entry.

Kluzik-Rostkowska praises Michał Dworczyk

Interestingly, Michał Dworczyk praised... Joanna Kluzik-Rostkowska, associate of the KO.

The fact is that Michał Dworczyk launched the debate on the exit from the Ottawa Convention. He convinced anyone who wanted to listen, regardless of political options (including me). Ukrainian MON experts confirmed the request to leave the Convention. A very good decision by the current government
