Chinese technology giant Xiaomi, previously associated mainly with inexpensive smartphones, makes a strategical return. The launch of $362 million, an ultra-modern smart household appliances mill in Wuhan is simply a signal that the company intends to break off with the image of a cheaper brand and challenge the leaders of the premium segment. The goal is not only to improve quality, but besides to build an integrated ecosystem in which the car, home and man are united.

The mill opened in October 2025 in Wuhan is the third, after the plants producing smartphones and cars, specified a large production facility of Xiaomi. Built in a evidence time of 11 months, it is able to produce 1 high-class air conditioner all 6.5 seconds, and its yearly production capacity is expected to scope 7 million devices.

It is in this mill that Xiaomi intends to produce 20% of its most advanced appliances, taking full control of the quality, which has so far been the Achilles heel of the company.

From inexpensive masking to advanced technology

Xiaomi's strategy so far has been based on offering products with very attractive prices, frequently well below the marketplace average. Although this brought large popularity and crucial marketplace share to the company, it besides led to quality problems and low client satisfaction. Complaints about faults and failure became common, and the brand, despite its immense scale, was incapable to compete imagely with marketplace leaders specified as Midea or Haier.

The fresh mill is about to change that. The first product to pull off its production tapes is an advanced air conditioning strategy at a price of around $7,000 – at a premium price level from competitors. It is simply a clear signal that Xiaomi no longer wants to compete only in price, but besides in technology and quality. Investment in own production is intended to destruct quality problems and build assurance among more demanding consumers.

Ecosystem “Man x car x House”

The key to Xiaomi's fresh strategy is to build an integrated ecosystem “Human x car x Home”. The company wants its products – from smartphones, household appliances, to electrical cars – to work together smoothly. The Xiaomi app already allows distant control and home management, and integration with an electrical car SU7 allows, for example, a conversation with the individual standing in front of the door straight from the screen in the vehicle. By the end of September 2025, more than 21 million users had connected to the applications at least 5 Xiaomi devices, and the ecosystem besides opened to another companies specified as Siemens and Bosch.

Ambitious goals and global expansion

The change of strategy besides includes a distribution network. Xiaomi, which has so far based sales mainly on the online channel, plans to massively grow the network of fixed stores. The number of salons outside China is expected to emergence from the current 300 to 10,000 by 2030. In these, customers will be able to get to know the advanced features of fresh products live.

The company's ambition is huge. president Lu Weibing announced that within 5 years, revenues from the household appliances section are expected to scope 100 billion yuan and Xiaomi is expected to become the second largest player on the Chinese air conditioner market. Although the road to this goal is long – now the company's share of this section is about 10% – the determination and scale of investments show that Xiaomi takes this mark very seriously.

Xiaomi's strategical turn is simply a fascinating example of transformation in the Chinese economy. Companies that have built their power at low production costs now invest in technology, quality and construction of global premium brands. Xiaomi's success will depend on whether she can convince the planet that it is not only inexpensive but above all good.
