As of March 1, 2026, the compensation to veterans who suffered permanent harm due to work on missions has increased by PLN 300. According to the MON communication, the amount of the benefit for each percent of the injury will now amount to PLN 6300. To apply for money, the injured veteran must apply to the Ministry of National Defence.
Compensation is 1 of the elements of the strategy of support for injured veterans who have suffered harm to their wellness as a consequence of an accident or illness acquired during tasks outside the country, e.g. during military missions or stabilization operations. It is simply a one-time benefit, and its amount is determined by multiplying the percent of harm to wellness by the applicable rate. The amount shall be valued and published by the Minister of National Defence in the authoritative Journal.
So far, the rate of PLN 6000 for each percent of the harm has been in force, but from 1 March it will increase to PLN 6300 (not taxed). In practice this means that a veteran with a 10% harm will receive PLN 63 thousand, and with 30% – PLN 189 1000 one-off compensation. “This is real support in everyday life and rehabilitation,” emphasises Tomasz Kloc, president of the Association of the injured and injured in missions outside the country’s borders.
The anticipation of seeking compensation from the injured veteran was introduced Amendment of the Veterans Act for Activities Outside the State, in force since September 10, 2025. – Previously, veterans of the injured could only make amends in court, which was time-consuming and frequently lasted many years. Now they are provided with strategy support, just apply to the MON – says Kloc.
The Ministry shall find the amount of the benefit on the basis of papers giving the applicant the position of injured veteran. After submitting an application, within 2 months, the veteran receives information about the amount and then has 30 days to decide whether to accept or reject it. After acceptance, just make a statement, and the money goes into the account within 14 days. If the amount seems besides low, a veteran can file a claim.
Tomasz Kloc admits that during the first months of application of the rules, a large proportion of the eligible decided to submit claims for compensation. According to estimates, it is up to 60% of over 900 eligible. “The procedure is not complicated or peculiarly long, so many veterans felt it was worth arranging their affairs as early as possible, taking into account different life situations and wellness uncertainty,” explains the president of the association.
As he adds, at the same time, any people abstain from the decision, hoping for a more precise determination of the level of injury during subsequent medical committees. Applications for compensation may be submitted within 2 years of the date of entry into force of the amended law (i.e. from 10 September 2025).
There are about 40,000 veterans in Poland, including 38,000 soldiers, and the remainder are officers. Veterans injured are about a thousand. The Ministry of Defence estimates that within 10 years it will allocate around PLN 100 million to compensation.
