Zeidler, Zeydler, Zaydler, Zeydler, Zaydler, Caydler, Joseph, *c. 1744, †4 IV 1806 Gostyń, Polish composer. No information on its origin and musical education. fewer biographical data come from the monastery of Filipinos on the Holy Mountain close Gostynia, 1 of the largest music centers in Poland. Zeidler arrived here about 1775 as a well-known and valued composer and remained for the remainder of his life. He was a associate of the monastic band, composer and copyist, and a householder and carpenter of the monastery. He improved his compositional workshop most likely by rewriting and studying works by Polish and abroad artists. The Gostine collections at that time counted over 900 tracks, including J. Haydn, W.A. Mozart, K. Stamic, I. Pleyel, L. Cherubini, K. von Dittersdorf, including about 90 secular ones. He died of an inflammatory fever and was buried in a monastery cemetery.

Zeidler is now considered to be 1 of the most crucial Polish composers of church music in the 18th and 19th centuries. Until recently, he held a marginal place in Polish music history. Catalogued by D. Idashak and P. Podejka, the collections of monastery libraries full show his legacy, with nearly 40 vocal-instrumental spiritual works; manuscripts are located in various centres in Poland: Gostyń, Poznań, Gniezno, Częstochowa.
Zeidler's work promotes the early 21st century J. Zeidler's Association of Lovers of Świętokórska Music. On the 2 hundredth anniversary of the composer's death, she organized the Oratory Music Festival “Musica Sacromontana” in Gostyń, with a continuation in the following years.
