On 25 March, on the celebration of the Annunciation of the Lord, in Poland we celebrate the Day of the Feast of Life, reminding about the dignity of all human being – from conception to natural death. This is simply a time in which the Church specifically recalls the request for respect, defence and love for life, which is 1 of God's top gifts.
This reflection on the value of life is besides referred to in the latest book, published by the White Raven publishing house, “My conversion from abortion to life-saving medicine.” This is simply a moving communicative about dramatic elections, conflicts of conscience and spiritual change of the American doctor with Polish roots, Dr. John Bruchalski.
His way of life was full of interior searches and questions that in time led him to a deep change of heart. As he admits in the book, at the beginning of his professional career, he treated abortion as “an act of compassion for women surviving in poverty, in hard relationships or simply overwhelmed with thought of motherhood.” He was convinced that he was changing patients' lives for the better, providing them with access to contraception and the anticipation of conscious fertility control.
The breakthrough in Dr. Bruchalski's life only brought a pilgrimage to the Mexican Shrine of Our woman of Guadalupe, where he first felt the strong and clear interior voice of conscience: "Why do you hurt me?". These words became the beginning of his spiritual transformation.
However, the final change took place during the pilgrimage to Medjugorje. In the atmosphere of prayer and silence, Dr. Bruchalski experienced a deep encounter with Christ, which became for him a minute of complete spiritual rebirth. From that minute on, his life and his medical vocation began to gain fresh meaning – they became a service of life and a evidence of the fact of the dignity of all human being rediscovered.
