
Presidential election 2025. Voting by proxy, for whom?

The legislator has provided for the anticipation of another authorised individual voting under certain conditions. Who can usage this option and what the procedure looks like?

Who can vote by proxy?
Under the current rules, the proxy vote may be utilized by persons who, due to their wellness status, aged or another restrictions, are incapable to go to the polling station.
This procedure aims at ensuring equal access to electoral rights and expanding attendance among those who could be excluded.

Here is who can usage this form of vote:
- persons with disabilities – voters with a decision of crucial or average disability; this besides applies to persons with a decision of the pension authority with full incapacity for work and incapacity for self-existence, to the I or II groups of disabled persons or to permanent incapacity to work on an agricultural holding with the right to a nursing allowance,
- seniors – persons who will turn 60 at the latest on election day.
Who could be the attorney?
According to the information on gov.pl website, he may become a proxy person who holds an active electoral right, i.e. she is simply a Polish citizen, she is 18 years old and has not been deprived of public rights.

However, it is worth remembering a fewer limitations. This function shall not be performed by a candidate in the elections concerned. Additionally, 1 individual can vote as a proxy for a maximum of 2 voters. In that case, at least 1 of them must be a associate of the immediate family.
How do I give power of lawyer to vote?
In order to empower another individual to vote on behalf of the voter, it is essential to:
- submit an application – the form can be obtained at the municipal office (at the mayor, mayor or city president). After the paper has been completed, it must be submitted to the office in person, by post or by a individual authorised,
- attach the required documents – if necessary, a copy of the current disability ruling,
- attach written consent of the proxy – the individual who is to become a proxy must give his consent to this function,
- set a time limit for drawing up the power of attorney – upon application, the office shall contact the voter in order to establish the time limit and the place of signature of the act,
- draw up a power of attorney – the paper shall be drawn up in the presence of an authoritative and signed by the voter.
Request for a power of attorney no later than 9 days before election day. In the case of presidential elections scheduled for 18 May 2025, the deadline is 9 May.
Voter has the right to retreat power of attorney, by making an appropriate message to the municipal office no later than 2 days before the vote or by forwarding it to the peripheral electoral commission on the day of the election, provided that the proxy has not yet given its vote.
