Cooperation with Polish universities under Cyber LEGION

On October 27, a cooperation agreement was signed between the Commander of the Cyberspace defence Army (DKWOC) and the University of Warsaw. The paper was signed by WOC Commander General Dyw. Karol Molenda and Rector of the University of Warsaw Prof. Dr. Alojzy Z. Nowak.

The agreement is the first specified paper signed between the Commander of the Cyberspace defence Army and the Polish university. This is the beginning of a broader initiative aimed at strengthening cooperation with academic centres across the country. Subsequent universities are already preparing to join the programme, which is intended to combine the possible of science, technology and defence.

Joint actions will be implemented under the Cyber LEGION programme - an initiative aimed at consolidating the Polish cybersecurity community around the Polish Armed Forces and Cyberspace defence Forces. The program, created in cooperation with the leading technological centres, is intended to strengthen the resilience of not only military structures, but besides the full Polish cyberspace.

Cyber LEGION is simply a unique platform combining military and civilian environments. It is attended by IT specialists, scientists, students and safety experts who jointly build a support strategy for the Polish Army in cyberspace crisis situations. The task besides has an educational dimension – it allows the improvement of participants' competences based on real experience of actions carried out on the first line of cyberfront.

According to representatives of DKWOC, nearly 2,000 volunteers already operate under the programme. – I am very pleased with today's gathering and the conclusion of an agreement with the Commander of the Cyberspace defence Army. The community of the University of Warsaw respects the army very much. We see the interest in our joint projects from both students and another members of the academic community. I believe that thanks to cooperation with the army it is possible to better make modern technologies and protection in cyberspace, which will contribute to a better future of Poland and to building the resilience of our country," said Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, Rector of the University of Warsaw.

The University of Warsaw has been playing a key function in the improvement of national and global discipline in areas specified as cybersecurity, cryptology, forensics, artificial intelligence and information technology. He conducts many investigation and educational projects, educating staff prepared to face modern digital threats.

The agreement assumes extended teaching, technological and organisational cooperation. Students, graduates and academics at the University of Warsaw will be able to participate in projects, trainings and exercises organised by DKWOC – including as part of initiatives specified as Cyber-Gym, Hack the Army, Capture the Flag or Cyber-Conference. In turn, soldiers and civilian specialists from DKWOC will be able to participate in university investigation projects, conduct classes with students and share experience with technological staff.

Cooperation will besides include joint research, workshops and technological conferences, as well as actions to make competences in the fields of technological innovation, artificial intelligence and automation of safety systems. There are besides plans to make improvement paths for students and specialists who want to tie their career with defence – both in uniform and in the civilian sector.

The agreement is an crucial step in strengthening cooperation between the technological and defence sectors in cybersecurity. The integration of knowledge, experience and possible of both environments is intended to strengthen the cyber resilience of Poland and contribute to the improvement of modern defence competences.
