On 13 April, the Lower Silesian Memorial Day of Katyń Crime Victims was celebrated in the garrison basilica of St. The celebrations began with a Mass held in a military ceremony.

– The memory of Katyn must not be limited to the memory of the past, but should be an impulse to act," said Fr Jerzy Żytowiecki, chaplain of Sybiraków and parish priest of St Boniface.

The liturgy was attended by representatives of many institutions, including the Institute of National Memory, the Sibirac Union and the Lower Silesian Katyń Family. Prayer was an expression of the memory of nearly 22 1000 Poles – officers and civilians – murdered in the spring of 1940 by NKVD officers by the russian authorities.

We pay tribute to our heroes who are already with God in eternity. But prayer and memory of them are very crucial to us. I am especially pleased with the banner posts that young people create," said Fr Janusz Radzik, parish priest of the civil-military parish of St.

Throughout the Holy Mass at the altar there stood a coffin with the ground from the Katyn cemetery. Finally, they went to the Katyn Chapel, where this land was placed.
