At the NATO Chess Championships, the representation of the Polish Army yet won the bronze medal. Only Turks and Germans were better. The tournament was attended by teams from 17 countries and six mixed teams. The championship for the 3rd time in past was held in Poland, at the Air Military Academy.
The five-day rebellion brought together the best chess players from many countries in Dęblin. The beginning ceremony was attended by Polish grandmaster and president of the Polish Chess Union Radosław Jedek, who during his speech spoke about the improvement of the royal discipline in Poland.
Among 117 players who entered the struggle, there were 5 women. A elder military chess player – 92-year-old Gen. Hendrik Steffers from the Netherlands, honorary president of the global Military Chess Committee, besides sat at the chess board. The NATO Chess Championship has been held since 1989. Poles have been competing since 2002. They have besides been organizers of competitions. Before the championships in Dęblin, the event hosted Poland twice – in 2005 in Kołobrzeg and in 2013 in Rumi close Warsaw. Polish military chess players have been at the forefront of NATO representation for years. This year we managed to win bronze, but in the past 3 times from the championship they brought squad gold – in 2016, 2018 and 2021.
