The army returns to Płock: 500 soldiers in Trzepas

The army returns to Płock after years of absence. National Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz signed on Monday a letter of intent concerning the deployment of about 500 soldiers of the 6th Mazovia Territorial Defence Brigade in Trzepas pod Płocka. The first soldiers will appear at the turn of this year and next year. The decision is linked to the protection of key energy infrastructure in the region.

On Monday, the head of the MON Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz and Starost of Płocki Sylwester Ziemkiewicz signed a letter of intent concerning the deployment of the 6th Mazovia Territorial Defence Brigade from Pomochówka in the erstwhile agricultural school in Trzepas. The facility presently belongs to the Płocka Academy of Mazowiecka.

Deputy Prime Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz announced at a press conference in the Płocki old age the transfer from Pomochówka to the Trzepowa battalion of light infantry along with the brigade commander. In Pomochówek there will be a logistics brigade of the Armed Forces Support Inspectorate.

Protection of critical infrastructure

The head of MON pointed out that the presence of soldiers in the Płocka area is crucial due to the critical infrastructure located in that district. It includes the main production plant of Orlen with the largest refinery in Poland and the largest oil base in the country owned by PERN.

The task of the soldiers stationed in Trzepza will be to aid the local community in the event of a possible crisis situation and to be full prepared for national defence activities. Deputy Prime Minister reminded of the August 105th anniversary of the conflict of Warsaw and the defence of Płock against the Bolshevik army.

Three safety pillars

The Minister of National Defence stressed that the precedence was to build a safe Poland based on 3 pillars: a strong army, a strong society and strong alliances. He assessed that the Territorial Defence Army was the emanation of the public force.

Kosiniak-Kamysz pointed out that Poland is building a strong army, which presently has more than 210 1000 soldiers. He besides mentioned soldiers who defend Polish borders, risking their lives and health. "And you always gotta stand by them. I'll always be on their side. This is simply a sacred substance for me" - he said.

Defiled for the Polish Army Festival

When announcing a parade on the occasion of the Polish Army, which will be held in Warsaw all year, the minister assessed that in order for this festival to have its dimension, the future of the country must be secured. "The future is the safety of Poland, it is the safety of our countrymen" - he said.

The letter of intent was signed by Deputy Marshal of the Sejm, MP Piotr Zgorzelski from the Płocki region and the first Deputy Commander of the Territorial Defence Army of the Brig-Gen. Grzegorz Barabida and commander of the transferred brigade Colonel Witold Bubak.
