Russian-Ukrainian War (as of morning 02.06.2026):

  • In the last 24 hours, the most crucial military event was another wave of Russian rocket and drone attacks on Ukrainian cities. Russia carried out massive hits on Kiev, Dniepr and Kharkiv. In the capital there was demolition of residential buildings, fires and collapses of building parts, and the number of fatalities and injuries increased to respective twelve people. The housing districts were peculiarly affected, which is in line with the Russian strategy of exerting force on Ukraine's civilian facilities, which has been observed for many months,
  • In fresh hours, information has emerged about subsequent Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian fuel infrastructure, warehouses and logistics facilities. The effects of erstwhile strikes are already seen in Crimea, among others, where the authorities introduced restrictions on fuel sales. Russia is besides considering expanding supplies from Belarus and further reducing fuel exports to stabilise the situation,
  • On the Zaporosian section, the Ukrians were driven out of Liubys,
  • On the Slavic section, the Russians invaded the village of Tychoniwka, lying on the left bank of the Donbas canal. They are only 9 km from Kramatorsk,
  • Russian forces lead fresh attacks on Ukrainian fortifications in Lima,
  • Seven EU countries have put forward proposals for the 21st Sanctions Package against Russia. Poland was among the countries involved. The sanctions include further restrictions in the energy sector and actions aimed at the alleged shadow fleet,
  • Kiev is increasingly stressing the request to usage the coming months to improve its negotiating position. The head of Ukrainian military intelligence Kyrylo Budanow estimated that the end of the war before the coming of another winter remains a realistic goal, provided Ukraine maintains military and logistical force on Russia. The Ukrainian authorities talk plainly of the request to resume effective peace talks from the position of force. Indeed, even Russian media and economical forum experts in St. Petersburg increasingly openly point to the slowdown of the economy, the effects of sanctions, advanced interest rates and problems caused by Ukrainian attacks on energy infrastructure. In part of the Russian elite there are voices that the prolonged war is becoming an expanding economical burden.
