Marek looks at the ceiling. present is Sunday. The Ukrainians won't come. Time passes lazily, but he sleeps well. There was no 3 o'clock wake-up call, no racing thoughts. In 1 magazine Marek read that 3 o'clock at night is the hr of Satan, due to the fact that Christ died on the cross at 3 in the afternoon, so the forces of darkness chose a time 12 hours distant from that minute to act with increased force. It seems terribly stupid, Marek thought, but possibly there is something to it.
