The Italians begin upgrading their artillery

The modernization of Italian haubic (now in a number of combats in Ukraine) will cover 2 key aspects for FH70: mobility and the accuracy of the fire. For the first parameter, it is planned to usage a fresh powerpack with a 40 kW engine, comprising components available on the marketplace (so-called off-the-shelf), which will let the FH70 to scope more than 15 km/h. The Haubice will besides receive an auxiliary generator unit (APU) for fast operation of the full strategy and short-term movement or change of setting without the request for an interior combustion engine. In the event of improved fire accuracy, an independent navigation, control and management strategy is planned to be installed for LINAPS and radar to measurement the velocity of the projectiles. Aris SRL (a €6.1 million contract) and Leonardo UK (a €15.7 million contract) will be liable for the above work. It is not known whether all FH70 in the Italian army (about 90 in the line and respective twelve in the reserve) will be upgraded.
