Italy/ Head of the MFA: The safety of the Ormuz Strait should be ensured through dialogue

Italian abroad Minister, Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani told the paper “Corriere della Sera” that the country could not be drawn into the mediate East war.

In his opinion, safety in the Ormuz Strait should be ensured by strengthening the dialog between the US and Iran.

"We cannot get active in the war", which began on 28 February with the American-Israeli attack on Iran," said Tajani in an interview published on Tuesday.

He besides stressed that "you request to do everything possible so that Americans and Iranians can talk to each another and find an agreement guaranteeing freedom of navigation."

A day earlier, U.S. president Donald Trump demanded that NATO states aid the United States unlock the Ormuz Strait, which has a strategical global importance for oil and gas transport.
