The Italian defence minister Guido Crosetto stated on Tuesday in Parliament that by deciding on the possible usage of military bases on the territory of Italy, the government always complies with laws, constitutions and existing treaties.

Thus he explained the fresh refusal to land bombers from the United States at the base of Sicily.

The head of the department presented in the Chamber of Deputies in Rome urgent government information on the usage by the United States armed forces of bases located in Italy.

When, in late March, the Italian media revealed that Minister Crosetto had refused to fly to the mediate East to US aircraft landing at Sicilian Sigonella base, he explained immediately that he could not agree to this because, according to the procedures in force, the government had to grant it in agreement with Parliament. The machines were already on their way.

In the lower home of Parliament, the Minister of Defence stated: " respect for agreements does not mean being active in war. We're part of NATO, we're not at war with Iran. We can abide by the treaties.

– We must not succumb to hysterical explosions or infantile submission, due to the fact that the way we follow is the way of law, global agreements and the constitution," Crosetto said.
