Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki met the head of the Dutch government Mark Rutte in The Hague. Politicians discussed, among others, the question of strengthening commitment to the safety of our region. The topics of the talks included the improvement of the European Union and the question of unanimity, as well as the improvement of common mechanisms on migration issues.
The Heads of Government of Poland and the Netherlands discussed the safety situation in our region before the upcoming NATO summit in Vilnius. "I want to thank the Dutch Prime Minister for having a large sensitivity to matters related to the large crisis we are all facing, namely the war in Ukraine and the barbarous attack of Russia," Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki stressed.

Reform of the European Union and unanimity
Mateusz Morawiecki and Mark Rutte discussed the improvement of the functioning of the EU. According to the Polish Prime Minister, this should not apply to the area connected with changing the rule of unanimity in key matters. The European Union should decide unanimously and scope a consensus. "Poland clearly believes that unanimity is simply a kind of safety valve, which protects us from the dominance of larger and stronger countries," explained the head of the Polish government.
Migration issues should be national
Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki pointed out that in the case of a large influx of migrants from the south of Europe, common mechanisms should be developed to aid on-site. For example, Poland does not evade humanitarian aid for Africa. "We stand in the position that Europe cannot accept all number of migrants", stressed the head of government. "We must be able to decide jointly what migration policy is. And migration policy as such, after all, belongs to the sovereign law of each EU country," he added.
EU sanctions against Belarus
The Polish Prime Minister and the Dutch head of government besides discussed further sanctions against Belarus. "Belarus serves Russia as part of the chain of circumvention," said Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. "I will rise this subject at the nearest European Council, due to the fact that on the 1 hand it will strengthen the mechanisms sealing section packages and on the another hand a signal for all those who want to work closely with the Kremlin that it is not worth it," explained the head of government.
