The controversial Lex Tusk bill is simply a PiS plan to win the upcoming parliamentary elections. Unfortunately, the powers of the committee to analyse Russian influence are a real threat to democracy. Anyone can be prosecuted.
The Act on the Committee on the survey of Russian Influences entered into force in late May. Although her records conflict with the constitution, the Law and Justice Service did nothing of it, and the president signed the bill without hesitation and sent it to the Constitutional Court at the same time. The goal of the ruling organization is clear: to win the election. They'll go for it no substance what. They even usage the tragedy of war in Ukraine to play political games.
– An external threat, specified as war, causes us to connect internally. On the another hand, the election run is slow starting, which needs these interior differences. The Law and Justice organization plays this due to Lex Tusk – comments Prof. Szymon Ossowski, a political scientist from WNPiD UAM “So, it seems that no 1 will truly be held accountable by the committee. Its only intent is to make a bad image of the opposition and discourage voting on it," he adds.

The bill is nevertheless a real threat to democracy. Opposition politicians, including Donald Tusk, under whom the bill is tailored, may be deprived of public functions. This means taking the chance to run for office. However, according to the Act, the committee may not only appoint politicians. At this point, the committee has a much broader field of action. He can actually call anyone. Its competence is broad adequate that it can release from professional secrecy a doctor, lawyer or journalist. The Commission has specified tools and powers that it is possible to talk about the breach of the rule of 3 divisions of power. There is besides controversy about the velocity of the committee. So why did the president sign a bill that should end up in a garbage can? Most controversial laws were vetoed, specified as Lex Czarnek or Lex TVN. Inaccurate Plan
So it seems that the Law and Justice has planned everything thoroughly. The organization was aware of the controversy due to the fact that it likes to origin them. The European Commission has criticised the provisions, but they seem to have come to terms with that. Money from the KPO will not be there anyway, and the conflict with the European Union has been going on for respective years. But now they have crossed the invisible line. The president's advisors began to leave the firm due to the fact that the bill is unconstitutional. So far, they may have accused the opposition of not supporting the bill. What is most important, however, is that the United States of America besides expressed concern about the bill.
The president pretended to be okay at first. In 1 interview, he stated that he would explain to Biden that this bill is not as bad as the journalists and opposition present. possibly the force from the US was stronger. Andrzej Duda changed his head in early June and decided to amend the provisions that caused controversy. All of this is rather unusual given that a fewer days earlier he signed the bill without reservation, at the same time sending it to the Constitutional Court.
It is not enough, therefore, that the democratic foundations of the state are being destroyed, that we are besides losing importance in global policy. The war in Ukraine was a chance for Poland to gain prominence in the world. But the Law and Justice doesn't usage it. Instead, it creates a law which is not accepted by the European Union or the United States. PiS politicians must one more time be brought to order by major global policy players. possibly winning in subsequent elections is much more crucial to them than expanding the importance of Poland on the global stage.
At this moment, the only thing that has been achieved by the ruling organization is the unification of the democratic opposition. Everyone speaks with 1 voice regardless of business. The bill signed by the president is compatible with the democratic foundations of the state.
– This bill united the opposition. On June 4th, only Donald Tusk would go. However, representatives of the democratic opposition decided to join. They know how dangerous this bill is," says prof. Szymon Ossowski.
The operation of the Law and Justice Office may mobilise the fluctuating PO electorate and another opposition parties. The law on commissions to examine Russian influences is widely commented upon. The rulers have given yet another reason to vote for democratic opposition, even if we think it is little evil. It's up to us to see if the plan to win the Law and Justice is successful.
